By offering their time, effort and expertise, volunteers are a valuable resource to charities for they play a crucial role in making a difference to the lives of the underprivileged. As such, they are the pillars of a compassionate, cohesive and harmonious society.

The Metta Volunteer Management Department was initially formed in May 2005 to promote volunteerism, recruit volunteers and assign them to the voluntary services and tasks that matched their preferences and interests.

Since 2006, two new service components that spearhead alumni relations and social involvement programmes have been installed, resulting in a more comprehensive support network for our beneficiaries. To reflect this evolvement and growth, an official name change to €œVolunteers and Alumni Department€ is effected.

Metta School Alumni
This division assists the alumni of Metta School in directing their energies to creative and useful endeavours after their graduation.

This is namely achieved through helping them secure gainful employment and letting them continue their mastery of the arts under an extended learning environment.

We currently have 39 alumni members who are participating actively in our pottery, gamelan, classical Indian and Chinese orchestral classes together with their juniors.

Social Involvement Programmes
This unit serves to enhance the independence of our beneficiaries and their needy families. Essentially engaged to produce handicrafts for sale, they are able to gain supplementary revenue, hence improving their financial conditions and self-esteem.

These recipients are identified by social workers from various service centres. Our volunteers and staff will then impart their skills to the recipients and set up relevant equipment in their homes, if necessary, to facilitate their production.

Enrichment Courses
Whilst ensuring that our beneficiaries can enjoy better quality of life under the social buttress built by our samaritans, we help the latter thrive in their calling by creating a vibrant platform where opportunities for self-development and networking are abound.

To address their lifestyle and recreation needs, we have introduced a wide range of specialised activities such as yoga, line dancing, pottery, Chinese choir, gamelan, classical Indian and Chinese orchestras.

Individual and corporate volunteers as well as businesses that are keen to offer employment to our alumni are welcome. Also, donations in cash and kind like handicraft materials and musical instruments can help us organise and sustain our programmes.
