Medical Care:
Artist's Profile

Struck with left-sided stroke, David was initially withdrawn and depressed. Having undergone rehabilitative programmes at the Metta Day Rehabilitation Centre for the Elderly since July 2004, he no longer relies on a walking aid.

Making Terry Pets has also helped him to improve his motor reflexes and self esteem as his handicrafts are sold to raise funds for the centre. Visibly happier, David often encourages his peers and participates in social activities.

Felt Novelties

With help from the Metta Welfare Association, Metta School alumni learn to direct their energies to creative and productive endeavours after their graduation.

Other than securing gainful employment, they can continue their mastery of the arts under an extended learning environment.

There are currently 15 members who are participating actively in handicraft making, pottery, batik painting, gamelan, classical Indian and Chinese orchestras together with their juniors.

Drawn to the deep, rich colours and the challenge of achieving precision in its application, Metta School alumnus Siti Hadibah has produced captivating artworks for multiple luminaries despite her learning disability.
