While he has mostly recovered, the stroke had affected his lower body, causing him to become wheelchair-bound. Mr Low now needs assistance with daily living activities like toileting and showering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being wheelchair reliant has resulted in many challenges and inconveniences for Mr Low, who had to visit the polyclinic regularly for his chronic disease management and twice weekly for wound dressing. \u201cMy helper feels stressed to wheel me up and down the buses due to its heavyweight. It was also unsafe for both of us, especially going past uneven surfaces\u201d, said Mr Low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"940\" height=\"788\" src=\"http:\/\/tristantay.com\/metta4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/mr-low-boon-lian-photo-facebook-post.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3867\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.metta.org.sg\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/mr-low-boon-lian-photo-facebook-post.png 940w, https:\/\/www.metta.org.sg\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/mr-low-boon-lian-photo-facebook-post-300x251.png 300w, https:\/\/www.metta.org.sg\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/mr-low-boon-lian-photo-facebook-post-768x644.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately, Mr Low was referred to Metta\u2019s homecare programme in June last year. With regular nursing visits by Nurse Ricky, Mr Low\u2019s wound condition improved significantly. Besides nursing support, Nurse Ricky also trained his helper with the necessary skills needed to care for him.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Low also follows a healthier diet plan containing more fruits and vegetables. Although he could only exercise with his upper body, he was determined to improve on his functional mobility. \u201cEating healthily and exercising regularly has given me the confidence to lead a normal life like others,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Low is happier that his health condition is under control.
