In November 2019, Ministry of Education (MOE) announced that Metta Welfare Association (Metta) would be setting up a second Special Education School, Maitri School to provide education for students with moderate to severe Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD), aged 7-18. Co-locating with Maitri School, the Maitri Building will serve a continuum of supporting services for graduated students (Alumni).

The subject site will be at 20 Pasir Ris St 51, Singapore 518902 and the buildings are slated to be ready by 2028.

Our vision for the students with Autism is to lead an independent and meaningful life and be equipped with skills for daily living, emotional management and regulation as well as vocational skills.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

Metta Welfare Association marked a significant and meaningful milestone with the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Maitri School/Building Campus on 9 November 2025, held at the project site at 20 Pasir Ris Street 51, Singapore 518902.

This initiative follows the announcement by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in November 2019, designating Metta to establish its second Special Education (SPED) School — Maitri School. The school will provide specialised education for students aged 7 to 18 with moderate to severe Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Co-located with Maitri School, the Maitri Building will offer a continuum of support services for graduates and alumni, enabling them to continue developing essential life, social, and vocational skills as they transition towards independent and meaningful adult living.

The new campus is slated for completion in 2028. Rooted in Metta’s mission to nurture, educate, and empower, the Maitri School/Building Campus will embody a space where compassion meets learning, a nurturing environment where every student’s potential can flourish, guided by the values of loving-kindness (Metta) and friendship (Maitri).

Metta extends its deepest appreciation to our Guest of Honour, Ms Indranee Thurai Rajah, and Special Guest, Mr Desmond Tan, for gracing this significant occasion and lending their support to this meaningful cause. As the first shovel broke ground, it symbolised not only the foundation of a new building, but also the planting of seeds of hope for generations to come.

Maitri School Programme

The new Maitri Programme started on 22 March 2021 with the 7 and 8 years old students housed at the 6th floor of Metta HQ Building located beside Metta school in Simei estate.

We have been relocated to the Holding school, previously Eunos Primary, at 95 Jalan Eunos (S419529) in December 2023 due to space constraints at our current temporary school in the Metta Building.

The maximum capacity per batch will be 25 students and these students will move to the new Maitri school once the construction is completed.
